I felt like needing psychological help today

To finish the adoption, we need several documents about our income, us not being criminal, our living conditions etc. One of them is proof that we are sane. Meaning that we are not diagnosed with any mental illnesses like schizophrenia etc. Should be easy - go to see a psychiatrist, get a paper saying that there are no known diagnoses connected with this person, get a stamp and a signature.

This is what we thought until today. We had an appointment with a young doctor. She had apparently not done anything like this before, but she also didn't want to listen to us and refused to believe what our child welfare officer had told us to ask for. She started asking questions: how old is the child? Why do you need to adopt? What is your intent with it? etc etc etc. With every question she turned more aggressive. Finally she started asking things about the boys.

But has a psychiatrist seen them? Why not? How can you know that they are developing normally since they obviously cannot be normal? Who said that you can call yourself a psychologist, what does that mean? In schoooooool? But the boys have several behaviour issues, right? They have enuresis for sure, yes? They do pee their pants several times a day, isn't it so? How said that the oldest boy can read? Where do you want to send them to school, which school close to your home will take such underdeveloped kids? Why isn't the youngest in preschool, when he has such severe developmental delays? How can you say that he is fine, who told you he is, a child left at home until the ripe old age of three years will never be socially adequate! What is the reason that you let your parents babysit? It is not possible that the people at the orphanage never teached them anything, our orphanages are so good! The oldest has been beaten very badly, this is sure! But they are sick all the time, right? All foster families are child-abusers!

And so on and on, 60 minutes long. By the way, she had never seen the kids, just a photo. We - me and WonderfulHusband were so perplex about this woman's behaviour that we only answered the questions as truthfully as possible. Only an hour later, when I was safely sitting in my office, my hands started to shake. During the afternoon I had serious heart arrhythmia and all day passed like in a fog.

No wonder my children have not been to see any psychiatrists, they have never done anything bad enough. FYI, they are developing normally, Leader Of The Pack is the best in his preschool class and The Dreamer is nearly free of all his former autistic behaviours. His Babyness is in several areas much better than many kids his age. Yes, they have FAS, especially The Dreamer has strong fascial features but that does not mean that they must be stupid or bad. They just need a bit more watching than kids usually do - and honestly, many kids at my school don't get any parental attention at all and thus they behave much worse than ours. Also, they have RAD - this is normal for children who have experienced what they have. We are working on it and it is getting better.

Anyway, I spoke to our child welfare officer about it and she said that this lady had no right to talk to us about the specifics of the children at all. The fact that we are a foster family, yes, but not to ask things she asked. She just had to write the document that she didn't do - saying that the judge must ask it from them because they never give any documents to mentally ill people themselves. Imagine.

I think this young psychiatrist needs a lot of prayers. I will pray for her, could you please do it, too? Another option would be complaining about her to her supervisor but I really don't feel like this would be right. Um, I think she actually gave us a good reason to sue her, but we don't want to have any scandals connected to our names, even not as victims.

I will see our child welfare officer tomorrow, she will come to see our home. This is the routine before-court visit. We have not even cleaned that much because she said that even if we would heva an outhouse she would say OK. I hope we can talk over what happened today and how to get the proper document from the proper person.
