Imagine a child who is very happy about his upcoming birthday. Imagine the child picking out friends to invite, drawing invites and hoping for a nice party.
Imagine parents who are willing to let strangers - parents of invited children - into their home. Imagine parents who work hard to make the party really cool and different from ordinary birthdays.
And then ... three of the invited five (all from preschool) children have some sort of excuse why they cannot come. Or actually, their parents come up with it two days before the party. One child has ear infection, so he is really excused. We pray for him. One parent has not said anything but I guess that this boy is also not coming, stupid is he who cannot find an excuse (as it is said by not very nice people). Is that an open insult to our family or yes? (as some young people say)
Right now I cannot imagine saying hello to those parents who disappoint my boy so. Unfortunately, I have schooled myself over the years to be polite toward people I don't really like.
Leader Of The Pack invited one boy from church (we have very few boys his age) and I was smart enough to invite two more children of our friends. I really hope and pray that they will not get sick or anything so that Leader Of The Pack will have at least some true friends at his party.
Actually, right now I feel like drawing both boys out from this preschool would be The Reaction to such insult. All the nice speeches about friendship and respect from the teachers ... Unfortunately, my mother cannot babysit them all 4 or 5 days a week and I cannot become a SAHM yet. But we are so. not. doing anything for those parents anymore. Except that we will maybe or um surely pray for them. That they would never be hurt through their child this way.
haven't figured out yet how to tell it to the birthday boy ...
